No User Input

When callers respond with silence, Parloa allows for a tailored approach to prompt them again, ensuring the conversation continues smoothly. This silent response can be managed effectively by configuring a reprompt strategy.

Configuring a Reprompt

A reprompt is designed to gently nudge the user back into the conversation without repeating the entire previous message. Instead, it succinctly restates the essential question or information needed to proceed. For instance:

Parloa: "Hello, welcome to our room booking system. Would you like to book Batman, Hellboy, or Wolverine?" User: silence Parloa: "Would you like to book Batman, Hellboy, or Wolverine?"

Timing and Repetition of Reprompts

  • Timing: If there is no user input, Parloa waits for a default period of 10 seconds before triggering a reprompt. This duration ensures users have ample time to respond but also keeps the conversation flowing.

  • Repetition: By default, if continuous silence persists, the reprompt will be repeated up to 10 times before the system decides to end the call. This repetition strategy is designed to balance persistence with user experience, preventing frustration from either party.

Automatic Reprompt Behavior

If a specific reprompt is not defined, Parloa will automatically reuse the last prompt. This default behavior ensures the conversation attempts to continue even in the absence of custom settings. However, customizing the reprompt experience is highly recommended to tailor the interaction to the specific context of your conversational AI application.

Unless settings have been manually adjusted, the default values are as follows:

  • 10 seconds until reprompt.

  • 10 times reprompt until hangup.
